April Newton has just reached her 5 year “cancer-free” mark. Her friends want to celebrate, her husband, a contractor, is building them their “dream house”, and her teenage daughter is growing apart from her. Dealing with all this and her mid-life crisis involves, sexy lingerie, getting a tattoo, and entering a lottery to buy a small bungalow on the beach. The owner of the bungalow is a widow who wants the new owner to be someone who will appreciate the special qualities of the little house.April feels that this house on the beach represents her untapped inner spirit and that she is the right person for it.
The storyline was a bit disjointed, and I found myself getting angry with April, wanting to just sit her down and tell her to get a grip on things. The writing is very descriptive, however, and the author does a good job detailing the warm presence of the beach bungalow versus the simplistic shell of the new house.
