“It was the revelation of the millennium: witches, werewolves, vampires and other supernaturals are real. Fast-forward 13 years: TV reporter Delilah Street used to cover the small-town bogeyman beat back in Kansas, but now, in high-octane Las Vegas—which is run by a werewolf mob—she finds herself holding back the gates of Hell itself. But at least she has a hot new guy and one big bad wolfhound to help her out…”
Carole Nelson Douglas isn’t known for writing paranormals; mysteries, absolutely, having penned the Midnight Louie series and the Irene Adler series. But she pretty successfully tackles this new genre with the first book in the Delilah Street, Paranormal Investigator series, Dancing with Werewolves.
Admittedly, the novel isn’t as smooth as silk; Delilah, after all, is trying very hard to be her own literary person. But if you can get past that, you’ll find engaging secondary characters {including a very large, therapeutic canine,} and a plot that will prompt you to turn pages quickly.
Plus, and this was actually pretty cool, several stars of the silver screen era make cameo appearances. Among them: William Powell and Claude Rains. One very famous television lawyer {can you guess which one?} also takes to the page.
