In which Flavorwire “decided to run a post on books that expose the darker side of humanity — a roundup of the most disturbing novels and short stories through time, if you will.”

There are a few surprises on their list of ten (hello, Game of Thrones!), and a few obvious choices (here’s looking at you, American Psycho), but the one striking thing about the list is how close they stayed to the classics line. Hard to believe that there’s nary a Stephen King title in sight. Or that Lord of the Flies didn’t merit a mention. Or Kafka’s Metamorphosis (a man turning into an insect? Shudder. Metaphor or no.) Or…
