If you’re a fan of James Bond, you’ll love Alex Rider. Sure, he may only be fourteen, but he knows his way around a karate kick and a Portuguese Man-of-War. Complete with gadgets – zit cream that can eat through eight inches of metal, anyone? – Alex infiltrates a computer manufacturing company to discover why a foreign entrepreneur is so generously donating his new computer to every single school in England. What he learns is quite shocking and his attempt to stop devious plans from being carried out is quite amazing. Stormbreaker provides non-stop action and is the first in the Alex Rider series.
Or, if you’d like an introduction to graphic novels, why not give Stormbreaker: The Graphic Novel a try? The plot of the graphic adaptation does not faithfully follow Horowitz’s original novel, but it’s quite good in and of itself. Plus, I’ve read that they based the movie on the graphic novel (or vice versa), so reading it will give you a better sense of what to expect from the feature film {if you haven’t already seen it, that is.}
It seems everyone is talking about Alex Rider lately! I’m going to have to pick these up..
To be honest, I wasn’t sure how much I’d like this series, but I got completely caught up in Alex’s world. If you do decide to read Stormbreaker, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
