This highly-anticipated debut boldly confronts addiction and courses the strenuous path of recovery, beginning in the wilds of the mind. Poems confront craving, control, the constant battle of alcoholism and sobriety, and the questioning of the self and its instincts within the context of this never-ending fight.”

Kaveh Akbar shares and recommends poetry on Twitter, too, and initiates excellent discussions on the craft. I’ve found several new-to-me poems and poets through his social media presence. Definitely check his feed out when you have more than a spot of spare time (because it’s very likely you’ll be sucked in, and will find yourself scrolling, scrolling, scrolling for minutes on end).

Not too long ago I picked up the recent issue of Tin House and was struck by one of his entries: “I Wouldn’t Even Know What to Do with a Third Chance.” For additional samples of his work, check out his profile on Poetry Foundation.
