Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thirteen year old Jace witnesses a brutal murder all while following a dare. Now he’s on the run from the perpetrators who have a uncanny ability to track down their prey. There’s only three people who stand between Jace and the Blackwell Brothers; Ethan and Allison Serbin who run a wilderness survival camp for teens, and Hannah Faber who’s in charge of a lookout tower in the endless woods of Montana’s mountains. Add to that a growing wildfire and things get explosive pretty quickly. I’ll get the bad news out of the way first. Those Who Wish Me Dead is pretty predictable and a good part of the story has been done before. BUT, I honestly don’t think Michael Koryta could write a bad book if he tried. Even though I guessed what was going to happen pretty much through most of the book, that didn’t stop me from tearing through it in one day. I loved Jace, Ethan, Allison, and Hannah. They all had vulnerabilities balanced by unexpected places of strength. The Blackwell Brothers are two of the weirdest, creepiest villains I’ve read in a while. And the ending while not your happily ever after type, tied up everything smoothly. I would recommend this to fans of contemporary thriller/suspense books.
