Only one of the stories features Jonathan Strange, but the rest of the stories feel like they take place in the same world. Clarke conjures up a version of 19th century England where magic and Faerie are historical subjects. The stories revolve around the occasional instances when magic enters the everyday lives of non-magic folk. There is a fairy tale quality about some of the stories.
