Building

Both entrances to the library are wheelchair accessible. The front entrance has a ramp and the rear entrance is at ground level. Both doors have button operated automatic openers. All levels of the library are accessible by elevator. All service desks are wheelchair accessible. Catalog stations and public access computers are also wheelchair accessible. There is a wheelchair accessible bathroom on the ground floor.

Equipment

  • All service desks have a counter loop amplifier for Hard of Hearing patrons who use hearing aids. Simply turn your hearing aid to T to access the system.
  • A wheelchair is available for public use. Ask for it at the main desk.
  • Optelec ClearView C desktop video magnifier located on the 2nd floor
  • All public access computers run Windows 10 and have Narrator screen reader, Magnifier and screen keyboard available
  • All service desks have a whiteboard to help enable communication as needed.
  • An adaptive toolkit is available on demand for use during programs. The toolkit includes a collection of items to support the inclusion of people across a range of motor functions, cognitive functions, and behaviors.

The button is represented by a circle icon with a person in the center like the one pictured here. After triggering the button, simply wait a moment for the  accessibility menu to load in its entirety.

  • Learn American Sign Language via Transparent Language.
  • Audiobooks and DVDs, with closed captioning and/or English subtitles, are available and can be searched in our catalog.
  • Audiobooks and movies are available for streaming and download on Hoopla, Kanopy and Libby
  • Digital Talking Book Player – The Danvers Public Library now has two digital talking book players to loan out to patrons along with sample Talking Books for use.

  • Massachusetts Office on Disability – MOD serves as a resource to state agencies, municipalities, and members of the general public by providing information, guidance and training on matters concerning disability-related civil rights, equal access, and opportunity.
  • Perkins School For The Blind Library – Perkins Library circulates more than half a million accessible books, newspapers and publications in braille, large print and digital audio formats annually to thousands of registered patrons
  • Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing – MCDHH provides accessible communication, education, and advocacy to consumers and private and public entities so that programs, services, and opportunities throughout Massachusetts are fully accessible to persons who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • New England ADA Center – The New England ADA Center is one of 10 regional ADA Centers comprising the ADA National Network. Since 1991, the ADA National Network has provided information, guidance and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), tailored to meet the needs of business, government and individuals at local, regional and national levels.
  • Disablity Law Center – DLC is a private, non-profit organization responsible for providing protection and advocacy for the rights of Massachusetts residents with disabilities.
  • Danvers Accessibility Commission – This commission is designed to offer education, foster inclusion, and raise awareness about equitable access to resources in Danvers. 
  • NortheastArc Assistive Technology Lending Library – Offers a wide variety of programs including Autism Services, Day Habilitation, Deaf Services, Early Intervention, Employment Services, Family Support, Personal Care Assistance, Recreation, Residential and Transition Services.
